Riëtte-Mari was born on the 29th of May 1994 and since the age of 10 years her passion for acting grew. She joined a drama school and enjoyed 8 years of drama training. Throughout her school career she was the winner of a number of Eisteddfod divisions. In 2009 she walked away with the Dramatized Prose section trophy. During 2010 – 2012 she got invited to Gala Event Evenings for Best Performances during Eisteddfods. In 2010 she won the award for best female Afrikaans monologue at Allegretto Eisteddfod. Every year she formed part of the Secondary School’s Plays which won a variety of bronze and silver certificates during the ATKV Tienertoneel competitions. In 2010 she was in a play, Dis Ek Anna, who went through to Gauteng-Oos ATKV Tienertoneel and ended 3rd place.
In 2011 she won the English section at the Gala Event Evening. In 2012 she did her Senior 4 and 5 Drama Exam with the South African Drama College and passed with Honours. She has her Live Performance BA Degree at AFDA – The South African School of Motions Picture Medium and Live Performance. During her year of study, in 2013, she was the Costume and Make-up Stylist as well as the Production Designer for a workshop short film called Jan Smuts avenue. The same year she produced Caught in the Act, another workshop short film.
Her second year atAFDA she was the Stage Manager for a theatre piece called The Youth League, which went to Grahamstown Festival and performed for 5 nights. Her final year of study she adjusted the play, The Father Clock by Walter Wykes, with her writing skills and performed The Father Clock at the AFDA Graduation Festival in 2015. In this play Riëtte’s brilliant comedy skills are showcased.
