Describing Marguerite Wheatley as possessing a unique creativity and talent, Clint Eastwood sums up the passion, determination and warmth that Marguerite radiates. And it is this warmth that makes Marguerites interpretation of roles most convincing: her characters draw you in, and leave you wanting more. Warmth was cemented in Marguerites personality as a child growing up in Yzerfontein, a beautiful village on the West Coast of South Africa.

Described as a breath of fresh air in the film industry, her interest in others, razor-sharp sense of humour, and ability to portray the serious, are what makes her exceptional and distinctive not only as an actress but also as a person.

With a great love of the outdoors, all things oceanic, and with an absolute unconditional affection for animals, Marguerites’ take on life is genuine and honest. As a collector of second-hand and new books, she also believes culture and beauty are to be celebrated. Literature, art, the sea, animals and nature are what drive her and feed her soul.

Finishing school in Paarl, in the heart of South Africa’s wine lands, Marguerite spent a year in Austria working at a ski resort and perfecting her German. Of German descent, Marguerite speaks German, Afrikaans as well as English and has a gift for accents ranging from British and American all the way to Middle Eastern and Russian. With a passion for languages, Marguerite is now perfecting her French.

Upon returning to South Africa, she completed a diploma in Acting for Camera from Cape Town’s prestigious City Varsity Film & Multimedia School, graduating in 2003.

Her debut in television was as ‘Doreen’ in Franz Marxs series, Egoli, and from this she progressed onto Generations and Binnelanders.

Rock music is another of Marguerite many interests, and she has interviewed countless musicians as a presenter on Jip, a music and youth culture programme on South Africa’s MK channel. She was also a continuity presenter for MK 324 in 2007 and 2008.

Appearing in music videos as well as advertisements has broadened Marguerites ability as an actress emphasising her versatility. This is further highlighted by her fitness credentials as she is a fully qualified fitness instructor, and is thus also perfectly placed for action roles.

In 2006 she won the award for best female newcomer to music/stage/screen at People magazines Crystal Awards.

Marguerite became a force to be reckoned with in South Africa’s film industry in 2008 when she starred in M-Nets Feast of the Uninvited as the female lead, ‘Nellie van Wyk’, and appeared in SABC 2s Huis van Liefde as ‘Veronica’. Prior to this, she had already made an impact on the silver screen, appearing in South African teen-flick, Bakgat, and as ‘Griet’ in Willie Esterhuizens Poena is Koning. Her role as ‘Nerine’, opposite Matt Damons’ ‘Francois Pienaar’, in 2009’s Invictus heralded Marguerites move from successful and immensely talented South African actress, to an international star. In 2014 she is to be seen in Knysna, a Wesfive Film production.

Will Marguerite be South Africas next bright young thing in Hollywood? Definitely! She is currently establishing her acting talent in London and France.
