Lara matriculated from Hoërskool Waterkloof in 2011, earning 6 distinctions, commencing her studies at the Performing Arts Lifestyle Institute (PALI) in 2012. In 2014 Lara graduated from PALI, receiving awards for best director and best production.
The following year Lara started working as a production assistant on the kykNET soapie, Binnelanders, while remaining active in the theatre industry.
In 2016, at the age of 23, Lara was chosen as a finalist in the kykNET Silwerskermfees short film competition – writing, directing and producing a short film called “Koue Voete”. The short film was one of Netwerk 24’s top 3 “must watch” short films at the festival. In the same year she also produced and directed a play called “The Guards”, which was written by Ian Roberts and starring Kaz McFadden, Zack Mtombeni and Francois Viljoen.
In 2017 Lara was the writer and director of the protest theatre piece #onebullet, which was awarded 2nd runner up at the annual Bang-Bang Theatre Festival. The following year the festival asked her to write and direct their flagship production – the political satire, Saving Azania – starring Thapelo Aphiri, Keito Kasonkola, Tiaan Nortjé, Sthandile Nkosi and Millie Dintoe.
In 2018 Lara made her festival debut in the Henry Mylne production of “Die Baba met die Badwater” at KKNK, playing the part of Susan.
Lara teamed up with Zack Mtombeni in 2017 and they are currently busy with a script development project for the NFVF.
Lara currently works at PALI as the Head of the Youth Division and Marketing. She also teaches film history and first year theatre at this institution.
In 2019 Lara made her television debut in the kykNET sitcom, Huis Lelieveld, as the eccentric Koekie de Kok.
