Iain was born in Edinburgh, but grew up and was educated in Ipswich, Suffolk.
After a six-year study of architecture, he went to drama school in London.
Throughout the seventies, he appeared in Repertory theatre; in the West End twice; and in many touring stage productions as well as a couple of films and many of the long running British TV series of that period.
Since his arrival in South Africa, in the very early eighties, he has appeared frequently on stage, TV, and film. And, during that period, was heard extensively in radio drama, also writing over eighty hours of drama for that medium, collecting two local awards (The IDEM and ARTES AWARDS) in the process. Other voice work has included many documentary narrations, corporate voice-overs, and TV and radio commercials, incorporating several of a full range of genuine British accents, including Scots, where required.
