Dewie (Dewald) age 24, recognised his gift in Primary School after being voiceless through-out his childhood. He incorporated acting during his presentations in school, as an ecsape. In 2010 Dewie started taking drama classes, facilitated by Esther Bredenkamp of the Black Door Studio at the Pierneef Theatre where he performed in shows such as The Glass Menagerie, Missing and Waiting for Godot amongst others. Since then Dewie appeared in SABC sitcoms such as Mvhango, Generations and Isidingo. Later that year he appeared in the Afrikaans film Semi Soet.
In 2013 Dewie was part of the Neil Simon Showcase, a tribute to Neil Simon. In this production he played Oscar Madison in the tribute to the renowned 1960s play. The Odd Couple was directed by the Swiss director, Andreas Peyrot with American director Elizabeth Waulet. After showing his dance skills in the Pyhysical Theatre piece, Appropiating Fred, he started writing and creating his own work.
In 2015 Dewie performed his first one man show called Schande. He then performed Vonnis which he co-wrote with Nina Janse van Rensburg. Vonnis won The KykNet Development prize for a Production with Great Potential. Currently Dewie is portraying the role of Andre Carl van der Merwe in Angels in South Africa, which is an imagination of Tony Kushner’s epic Angels in America. Following with another project called Deurnis: Koud (written and directed by Henque Heymans), a side specific project first of its kind in South Africa.
